【题目】：Domestic Transportation Infrastructure and Gains from Trade in The Vertical Linkages

【摘要】：This study examines how investments in domestic transportation infrastructure contribute to gains from trade. Using a two-country Melitz-style model that accounts for both international and domestic iceberg transportation costs in the trade of intermediate goods, we demonstrate that reducing domestic transportation costs through infrastructure improvements enhances trade gains for both domestic and foreign firms via vertical linkages. We empirically test these predictions using panel data on Chinese manufacturing firms from 2000 to 2007. After addressing endogeneity with a control function approach, we find that market access to upstream suppliers positively influences the Domestic Value-Added Ratio of exporting firms in the home country, with market access explaining 32.83% of its interquartile variation. Additionally, increased market access boosts the exporters’value-added and revenue. Furthermore, market access to downstream firms enhances the value-added, profit, and revenue of upstream producers in the home country. Finally, improved market access benefits foreign intermediate goods producers by increasing both the variety and quantity of imported intermediate goods.

【报告人简介】：唐遥博士为北京大学光华管理学院应用经济系副教授、博士生导师、北京大学管理科学中心副主任。2009年不列颠哥伦比亚大学经济学博士毕业。主要研究方向为国际经济学，宏观经济学和碳中和经济学。曾教授课程包括宏观经济学原理，宏观经济与政策，国际金融，国际贸易，经济增长，亚洲经济专题和微观经济学原理等。文章曾发表在JIE, JoE, 经济研究等国内外顶级学术期刊。
